How do I create an account?
MySky uses the AT Protocol for authentication. You'll need a Bluesky account
(or any AT Protocol compatible identity). Sign up at
bsky.app
if you don't have one, then come back and sign in!
Why can't I use a traditional username/password?
MySky is built on the AT Protocol, a decentralized social networking protocol.
This means your identity isn't locked to MySky - you own it! You can use the
same identity across any AT Protocol app, and your data travels with you.
Is MySky connected to Bluesky?
MySky uses the same underlying protocol as Bluesky (the AT Protocol), so you
sign in with your Bluesky handle. However, MySky is a separate application with
its own features like custom CSS profiles, Top 8 Friends, and mood indicators.
How do I customize my profile?
After signing in, click "Edit Profile" to update your About Me, interests, mood,
and headline. You can also add custom CSS to completely transform your profile's
look - just like the old days!
What is the Top 8?
Your Top 8 (or Top Friends) is a featured list of friends displayed prominently
on your profile. It's a callback to classic social networking! By default, Tom
is everyone's first friend. You can customize your Top 8 in Edit Profile → Manage Top Friends.
Can I use custom CSS?
Yes! MySky supports custom CSS for profile personalization. Go to Edit Profile →
Customize CSS to add your own styles. CSS is sanitized for security, but you can
change colors, fonts, backgrounds, and more.
How do I change my profile picture?
Your profile picture comes from your AT Protocol profile. To change it, update
your avatar on Bluesky at
bsky.app/settings.
The change will reflect on MySky automatically.
Where is my data stored?
Your data is stored on your Personal Data Server (PDS), not on MySky's servers.
If you use Bluesky, your PDS is managed by Bluesky. You can also run your own PDS
for complete control. MySky just provides an interface to view and edit your data.
Can I take my data elsewhere?
Absolutely! That's the beauty of the AT Protocol. Your identity, posts, and
connections are portable. You can use them on Bluesky, other AT Protocol apps,
or even your own applications.
What happens if MySky shuts down?
Your data remains safe on your PDS. MySky doesn't store your content - we just
display it. If MySky goes away, your data stays with you and can be accessed
through other AT Protocol clients.
How do blog posts work?
Blog posts are stored on your PDS using the standard.site lexicon. This means
your blog content is truly yours and can be accessed through compatible readers.
Write posts at Blog → Post New Entry.
What are bulletins?
Bulletins are short announcements you can share with your friends network.
Think of them as a broadcast to all your connections at once - great for
announcements, events, or just saying hi!
Can I add a profile song?
Yes! Go to Edit Profile → Profile Song to add music to your profile. Just like
the classic social networks, visitors to your profile can hear your favorite tune.
